Overview Of Bath

Bath  is a huge spa city (that's where it got its name) where the Romans built the first spa for a bath around 60 AD. Bath is located in Somerset and is about 115.4 mi and 2 hours 16 minutes away from London. The city is a heritage site which has even seen ancient battles such as the Battle of Badon Hill.

Things To Do in Bath

If you are visiting Bath for the first time there are some attractions that should not miss, Castle Combe is a very attractive village close to the city of Bath and is very popular with tourists due to its picturesque cottages and streets with a distinct old english charm. The Roman baths in the centre of the city of Bath are one of the most famous attractions and are on most tourist's itinerary, so be warned they can get very busy during the summer months.

Bath Hotels,Hospitals,University,Attractions

1.Jane Austen Centre

Located in a Georgian town house in the centre of Bath, the Jane Austen Centre is a permanent exhibition describing life in Bath in the eighteenth century and the part that the city played in the life and work of the novelist Jane Austen. From 1801 to 1806, Jane Austen lived in Bath (actually high up the hill on Gay Street at No.25) and two of her most famous novels, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion are set predominantly in the city.

3. Bath Abbey, Bath

Bath Abbey is the last of the great medieval churches of England. The Abbey Church has been used for worship for over 1000years. It is a beautiful Church, and if you wish, you can take a guided tour of the tour on any day but a SUNDAY. It's a perfect place to appreciate the architectural beauty and contemplate in peace in a beautiful setting! The Abbey including the valuted fan ceiling was commissioned during Queen Elizabeth I's reign, late 1500s.
4. Royal Crescent, Bath

The Royal Crescent is a residential road of 30 houses, laid out in a crescent and was built starting 1767 and completed 1774 to the design of John Wood the Younger. In front of the building there is a long slope of green lawn. The Royal Crescent also includes the Royal Crescent Hotel (number 16) and a museum (number 1) which is operated by the Bath Preservation Trust.
5. Royal Victoria Park

Royal Victoria Park became a municipal park in 1829 where Bath residents subscribed to protect this green space from further development. The Park hasn't change much since the creation and is considered a typical Victorian style. It was opened by Princess Victoria who named it as 'Royal Victoria Park' which is an honour for a city park and is recognised by English Heritage as a Park of National Historic Importance.

6. PARADE GARDENS

Parade Gardens are owned by the municipal Council, and have a small entry charge for non Bath resident's. They are a very good example of an English Victorian Garden.

7. Bath Theatre Royal

The theatre was built and designed by George Dance in 1804 and opened in 1805. A fire destroyed the theatre in 1862 and a new theatre was built on the same site in 1863. The theatre had to go through an extensive renovation including a fire-proof curtain, additional entrances and staircases in order to have it's Royal Patent reinstated in 1902.
Bath, quite simply is exquisite.
